Double Glazing Grants in 2026: Who Can Get Help With New Windows

ApplyFreeBoiler Team
ApplyFreeBoiler.uk is run by Reliant Energy Solutions Ltd, an ECO4 heating and insulation installer. We are paid by the energy supplier for each installation we complete under ECO4. We are not paid by households. We do not run the Warm Homes: Local Grant; your council does. See our funding policy.
Early disclosure
There is no standalone national double glazing grant in 2026. New windows can still be funded as part of a wider ECO4 package, ECO4 being a government scheme set in law, regulated by Ofgem and paid for by the larger energy suppliers, or through some councils’ Warm Homes: Local Grant schemes in England. Warmer Homes Scotland does not list windows among its funded measures.

Does ECO4 cover double glazing?
Yes, but as one measure among many. Ofgem’s ECO4 delivery guidance lists window glazing in two forms:
- Single to double glazing, replacing single-glazed windows.
- Improved double glazing, replacing old double glazing that no longer meets Building Regulations.
The measure covers factory-made sealed units. It does not cover secondary glazing. See Ofgem’s ECO4 delivery guidance for the wording.
Why windows are rarely funded on their own
Energy suppliers choose which measures they fund. Windows usually earn fewer carbon savings per pound than insulation or heating, so they are mostly installed as part of a wider package of measures, not as a standalone replacement of working windows.
Insulation and heating, which earn more carbon savings per pound, are covered in our guides to the free boiler grant, cavity wall insulation and external wall insulation.
Who can get ECO4 help, and can you get free double glazing on benefits?
To be considered for ECO4, your household gets a qualifying means-tested benefit, or qualifies through LA Flex, and the home is usually rated EPC D to G. Our LA Flex page explains the route for households without a qualifying benefit.
Meeting those tests does not mean windows will be on the list. A survey decides what your home is offered, and ECO4 ends on 31 December 2026. Our guide to what the ECO4 deadline means explains the timing.
Does the Warm Homes: Local Grant cover windows?
Sometimes. The Warm Homes: Local Grant is run by councils in England, and some councils’ schemes list double glazing and insulated doors among the energy performance measures they fund. Greater Manchester’s scheme is one example.
It is aimed at low-income households or homes in eligible postcodes, rated EPC D to G. Your council decides which measures it offers and which your home gets. Our Warm Homes: Local Grant vs ECO4 guide covers eligibility and the cost caps, and the GOV.UK policy page is the official source. For the wider picture, see our Warm Homes Plan guide.
Double glazing grants in Scotland
Warmer Homes Scotland does not list windows or glazing among its funded measures. It funds wall and loft insulation, draught-proofing, central heating and home renewables. If you are in Scotland, ask Home Energy Scotland what other support is available.
Listed buildings and conservation areas
New windows in a listed building or a conservation area may need consent, whoever pays for them. Check with your council planning team before any work starts.
Are free double glazing offers a scam?
Be careful with cold calls and adverts that promise “free double glazing”. ECO4 is never something you pay a fee to apply for, so anyone asking for money to process a grant is a warning sign. Our guide on whether the free boiler grant is a scam lists what to look for.

Check your ECO4 eligibility
ECO4 is the time-limited route, so it is the sensible first check. Our free, no-obligation eligibility check shows whether you may qualify for ECO4 or LA Flex. You may qualify; a survey decides what is funded.
Who runs this site (and what we are not)
ApplyFreeBoiler.uk is run by Reliant Energy Solutions Ltd, an ECO4 heating and insulation installer that surveys, installs and submits the work itself. We are paid by the energy supplier for each installation we complete under ECO4. We are not paid by households. Read our funding policy for the detail.
Because we install under ECO4, we have an interest in ECO4 and you should weigh what we say accordingly. We do not run the Warm Homes: Local Grant, and we are not the UK Government, your council, Ofgem or an energy supplier.
