How these calculators work
Each calculator takes details you type in, such as energy use, property size or roof orientation, and runs them through fixed assumptions written into the page: emission factors, fuel prices, typical costs and percentage savings. Nothing is looked up from your address, supplier or tariff, and the sums run in your browser.
The carbon footprint calculator estimates annual household CO₂. The insulation calculator prices loft, wall, floor and glazing measures against your heating bill. The solar calculator estimates yearly generation and payback. The heat pump calculator compares running costs with a heat pump and gives a rule-of-thumb suitability score. Each one has its own section listing its inputs, formulas and limits.
Results are estimates, not quotes, surveys or grant decisions, and the prices and costs behind them may differ from today's. Eligibility for any scheme depends on the scheme rules. To see how a free boiler works under ECO4, read the free boiler grant guide or check your eligibility.
